One-Day Kun Khmer Class in Siem Reap for Tourists

May 20267 min readBy Kon Phanet & Ramon

You only need one day in Siem Reap to train Kun Khmer — a single $9 drop-in class gets you real technique instruction, pad work with a coach, and a full conditioning session, no return visit required. It's built to fit into a short trip, not around one, which matters given how packed most Siem Reap itineraries already are, squeezed between temples, tuk-tuk rides, and everything else on the list.

Planning It Around Angkor Wat

Most visitors to Siem Reap are here for the temples, and a one-day Kun Khmer class fits naturally around that itinerary rather than competing with it. Spend the morning at Angkor Wat or the wider temple complex while the air is cooler, rest through the hottest hours of the day, then come to our 5:00 PM class before dinner. It turns a temple day into a full day — sightseeing and something physical and memorable, back to back — instead of leaving the evening as dead time before another travel day. Plenty of our tourist visitors tell us afterward that the class ends up being the part of the trip they talk about most, more than any single temple. It works just as well slotted into a rest day, too — if you've already done the main temple circuit and have a free evening before moving on to your next stop, training fills that gap with something more memorable than another night scrolling through photos from earlier in the day.

What One Class Actually Gives You

This isn't a diluted tourist demo — it's the same class our regular students take. In one session you'll learn stance and guard basics, drill core strikes (punches, kicks, knees, elbows), hold pads with a coach who has fought professionally in Cambodia, and go through real conditioning. You leave having actually trained Kun Khmer, not watched it from the sidelines or shadowed someone else's session. For a lot of travelers, it's the closest they'll come on the whole trip to an experience that's genuinely local rather than staged for visitors — Kun Khmer is Cambodia's own combat sport, and you're learning it from coaches who've actually fought it. As for timing, 5:00 PM is when our daily group class runs, and it's a deliberately good fit for a single tourist day: the day's peak heat has broken, there's still daylight, and it sits neatly after a morning of sightseeing and before an evening meal. If 5:00 PM genuinely conflicts with your schedule, message us; other times can sometimes be arranged directly with the coaches, though the daily class remains the simplest option for most one-day visitors since it needs no special arranging at all. Even if you never train again after leaving Siem Reap, you'll walk away understanding stance, guard, and the four core strikes well enough to recognize them the next time you watch a Kun Khmer or Muay Thai bout on television.

What to Bring and How to Book

  • Light workout clothes — you'll be sweating, especially in Siem Reap's climate
  • Water and a small towel
  • Nothing else — gloves, wraps, and pads are provided, and training is barefoot on mats, so there's no gear to source anywhere in town beforehand
  • Walk-ins are welcome, but if your Siem Reap time is tight, message us ahead on WhatsApp, Telegram, or call +855 96 228 8585 so nothing gets left to chance

FAQ

Can I really learn anything in just one class?

Yes — one session covers real stance, technique, and pad work fundamentals; it's a full class, not a shortened preview built just for visitors passing through.

Should I train before or after visiting Angkor Wat?

After works well for most people — temples in the cooler morning, training at our 5:00 PM class once the day's heat has eased and your legs have had a break.

Do I need to book my one-day class in advance?

No, walk-ins are welcome, though messaging ahead is smart if your Siem Reap schedule is tight and you don't want to risk a clash.

What if I'm only in Siem Reap for one night?

That's plenty — plan your temple visit for the morning or early afternoon and train at 5:00 PM the same day, with dinner still ahead of you.
