Can I Bring a Friend to a Martial Arts Class?
Can I bring a friend to a martial arts class? Yes — partner training is the norm: $9 per person group classes, $25/hour/person side-by-side privates, first-timers welcome.

Yes — you can bring a friend to a martial arts class at our Siem Reap gym, where training with a partner is the normal way people start: the daily 5:00 PM group class takes walk-ins, pairs, and small groups alike at $9 per person for the day pass. Two of you train for $18 total (our arithmetic on the published per-person rate), and side-by-side private lessons run $25 per hour, per person. Most first-timers arrive with zero experience, and the club's own review record shows it — pairs writing "we took the trial boxing class" and "we did a great class here today" about their first sessions.
Can You Bring a Friend to a Martial Arts Class Here?
Yes — and arriving as two changes nothing about how the class runs. The daily 5:00 PM group class takes walk-ins with no roster and no minimum group size; if ten people show up unannounced the class still runs, and a pair simply counts as two of whoever arrived that day. A quick WhatsApp or Telegram heads-up is still worth sending when more than one of you is coming, because it lets a coach pair beginners appropriately and have enough gear sized and ready — that is exactly what our own booking guidance asks of people who want to train together. The logistics of booking a Kun Khmer class in advance stay the same for two as for one, and what tourists can expect training Kun Khmer here covers the arrival basics. Everything booking-shaped lives in the prices and booking hub.
- Show up shortly before 5:00 PM — the class runs daily at that time
- Pay $9 per person for the day pass (or train on an existing weekly or monthly pass)
- Get fitted for hand wraps and gloves — provided by the gym
- Train the same warm-up, technique, pad, and conditioning arc as everyone else
- Decide afterwards whether one session was the point or a week of them is
How Much Does It Cost for Two People to Train?
Every price here is per person, so the arithmetic for two is straightforward: $9 day passes each ($18 for the pair — our arithmetic), $69 weekly passes each ($138), $129 monthly each ($258), and the $299 six-week fight camp per person for anyone staying long enough. Private lessons price at $25 per hour, per person, so a side-by-side private hour for two is $50 — again our arithmetic on the published per-person rate. Nothing about training as a pair adds a fee, and nobody pays for anybody else. The full breakdown sits in what a Kun Khmer class costs in Siem Reap, and the $9 day pass itself is the single-evening version. See the full price list for every tier.
Cost for two — published per-person rates (lib/business.ts), pair totals our arithmetic
| What two of you book | Per person | Pair total |
|---|---|---|
| Day pass, one evening class | $9 | $18 |
| Weekly pass — a week of daily classes | $69 | $138 |
| Monthly pass | $129 | $258 |
| Private lesson, side by side | $25 per hour | $50 per hour |
| 6-week fight camp | $299 | $598 |
What Does Training With a Partner Actually Look Like in Class?
Partner work is built into the class format, not bolted on. The session runs hand-wrapping, a warm-up, technique, pad work, and conditioning — and the pad block is where pairs matter: you strike, and a coach or partner holds the pads, then you swap. Striking pads held by a human being is the core skill of the art; nobody is hitting anybody in a first class, and sparring is not a day-one event here. What a typical class looks like walks the full arc stage by stage, and how long classes run puts the hour in context — the format is the same whether you arrive alone or as five.
most drills are taught with contact made either to Thai pads or your partner's gloves
Do We Both Need Experience to Train Together?
No — and a pair where one person has trained before and the other has not is a completely normal shape for this room, because most first-time visitors here have never done any martial art at all. Beginners start from stance and the basic strikes, drilled slowly before anything lands on pads, and the coach scales intensity to whoever is in front of them; the experienced half of your pair will simply be pushed harder on the same drills, not pulled into a different class. Beginner Kun Khmer classes cover what the first sessions actually teach, trying Kun Khmer with no experience answers the zero-experience question directly, and how safe the class is for beginners covers the worry most pairs quietly share.
- Wraps fitted for each of you, side by side, before the warm-up
- Stance and guard taught from zero — the experienced partner refines, not restarts
- Strikes drilled in the air first, then landed on pads
- Conditioning scaled per person, so nobody is training at someone else's level
- The same 5:00 PM slot for both of you — no separate beginner session to coordinate
Is the First Class Less Nervous With a Friend Along?
For most people, yes. First-class nerves are the most repeated emotion in the training communities we mine — the same worry recurs in thread after thread ("Nervous about starting tomorrow." is a whole r/MuayThai thread type, community-reported, one of nine sightings in our phase-1 harvest) — and walking in with someone converts the scariest part, the doorway, into a shared step. The review record here shows pairs doing exactly that: two of the eight reviews on our Google listing are written in the first-person plural, friends or couples who took their first class side by side — "We took the trial boxing class… He explained all the basic techniques for our first class, it was awesome!" (Margaux, September 2026). What comes next for both of you is in what happens after your first class.
We did a great class here today! We were shown all the techniques for kun khmer, and had a great laugh with our instructor. Could not recommend this class enough
Group Class or Two Private Lessons Side by Side?
The group class is the bring-a-friend default: $9 each, the energy of a full room, and shared instruction from coaches Kon Phanet and Ramon, who have a combined 50+ professional Kun Khmer fights in Cambodia. Side-by-side privates buy the same art with one coach's attention concentrated on the two of you, at $25 per hour, per person — $50 for the hour (our arithmetic), arranged by message around coach availability rather than the fixed 5:00 PM slot. Most pairs do not need to choose on day one: train the group class together first, then add a private hour if one of you wants faster technical correction — private Kun Khmer lessons in Siem Reap explains the format, and personal training in Siem Reap sets it in the wider local context.
Group vs side-by-side private, for two
| Group class | Private, side by side | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost for the pair | $18 (2 × $9 day passes) | $50 per hour (2 × $25) |
| Timing | Fixed 5:00 PM daily start | Arranged with the coach |
| Coach attention | Shared across the room | One coach, the two of you |
| Best for | The first class together | Faster correction afterwards |
What If Only One of Us Wants to Train?
Then only one of you pays — passes are strictly per person, so a single $9 day pass covers exactly the person training, and there is no charge for the friend who came along. The class needs no minimum headcount to run, which is the same mechanism that lets a pair walk in unannounced: one person training while the other waits is just a smaller version of the same evening. The waiting half gets the hour back, and what Siem Reap offers after dark is a short ride from most of town; the one training needs nothing but how drop-in classes work, which is the walk-in mechanics in full.
Per person means per person
Day, weekly, and monthly passes are priced per person — $9, $69, and $129. There is no couples' rate and no surcharge for arriving as two; you simply buy one pass each, or one of you buys and the other does not.
How Far Ahead Should Two People Arrange It?
For the group class, not far: walk-ins are the normal path and there is no booking to make, though the heads-up message matters more for two than for one — it lets the coach pair you sensibly and size gear for both before you arrive. Standard first-class practice elsewhere is to arrive early; Chonburi Muay Thai's FAQ tells students to "arrive 20 minutes prior to the start time" (live-verified curl 200, phase4w1-citations.md:49), and the same buffer covers two people getting wrapped and fitted. The 5:00 PM start is fixed, so the best time of day to train is settled for you. Only private hours need real arranging — a message with the coach — and if the plan is a whole trip together rather than one evening, planning a Kun Khmer training trip maps passes onto days.
- Send a quick WhatsApp or Telegram message saying two people are coming
- Arrive about 20 minutes before the 5:00 PM start
- Pay $9 each for the day pass and get fitted for wraps and gloves
- Train the full class arc together — pads included, sparring not on day one
- Continue only if you want to: a weekly pass, a monthly pass, or camp
Can a Couple Make Training a Regular Thing in Siem Reap?
Couples are just a pair with a return habit: the same $9-per-person evening class works as a one-off shared activity or as the fixed point of a week together, and health authorities frame regular shared activity as valuable on its own terms — the WHO states that "regular physical activity provides significant physical and mental health benefits" (fact sheet, curl 200, phase3b3-citations.md:27). Training as two also pre-solves the problem solo travelers describe in the community threads — the loneliness posts ("keep showing up at the gym and you'll make friends," one r/MuayThai reply puts it, community-reported, phase1-community.md:63) — because a pair arrives with a training partner and a reason to keep showing up. For everything else to do as two in town, the couples' guide to Siem Reap covers the non-training evening.
A training week (or more) for two — published rates, pair totals our arithmetic
| Commitment | Cost to the pair | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| One evening | $18 | Two $9 day passes, the 5:00 PM class |
| One week | $138 | Two $69 weekly passes — a class every day |
| One month | $258 | Two $129 monthly passes |
| Six weeks | $598 | Two $299 fight-camp places |
Can a Whole Family or Group Train Together?
The adult class scales to however many show up, so a friend group of three, four, or six works exactly the way a pair does — everyone pays the $9 day pass, everyone trains, and the coach folds the room's size into the pad-round count. The limit is age-appropriateness, not headcount: the 5:00 PM class is an adults' class, and children have their own starting-age and safety questions, answered in martial arts for kids in Siem Reap and what kids actually gain from training. Mixed-age adult pairs — a parent and adult child, friends a decade apart — are ordinary, and older beginners trying Kun Khmer covers the over-35s start directly.
- Two to six friends — walk in together, $9 each, no notice required
- A couple on a trip — the same path, or a side-by-side private hour
- Family with children — adults in the 5:00 PM class; kids' training has its own track (see the kids' guides)
- A larger group — a heads-up message helps the coach plan gear sizes and pad pairing
What Should Each of Us Bring on Day One?
Almost nothing: light sports clothes are the whole packing list, because gloves, pads, and hand wraps are provided and fitted at the gym — for each of you individually, which is one more reason the twenty-minute-early arrival matters for a pair. Water matters more in Siem Reap's heat than in most gyms, and other gyms' FAQs say the same ("It is recommended that you bring water and a towel, as well." — Chonburi Muay Thai FAQ, live-verified, phase4w1-citations.md:49). What to bring to your first class is the full checklist, what to wear settles the clothing questions, and beginner gear explained covers what is worth buying only if the two of you continue past week one.
The two-person packing list
Per person: light sports clothes, water, a towel — and nothing else. Wraps, gloves, and pads are provided and fitted on arrival. Two people need two sets of nothing: the gym supplies both.
FAQ
Can I bring a friend?
Yes — the daily 5:00 PM group class takes walk-ins, pairs, and small groups at $9 per person, with wraps, gloves, and pads provided. A quick message ahead helps the coach pair you sensibly and size gear for both of you.
Can beginners join a class?
Yes — beginners are the majority here. You start from stance and basic strikes on pads at scaled intensity; no sparring on a first day, and no experience is assumed of either of you.
Can I drop in for a class?
Yes — the $9 day pass is the walk-in rate, paid on arrival at the daily 5:00 PM class. Only private lessons and arranged groups need a message ahead.
Do I get one-on-one time in Muay Thai group classes?
You get individual correction in every pad round — a coach holds pads and fixes technique person by person — but the class is shared instruction, not a private hour. If you want a coach's full attention, private lessons run $25 per hour, per person, and two people can train side by side in the same hour.
Can I add extra personal training sessions?
Yes — privates are arranged directly with the coaches at $25 per hour, per person, around your schedule, and they mix freely with any pass. Many students do a private hour or two, then join the daily group class.
What time should I get to the gym?
About twenty minutes before the 5:00 PM start — enough to wrap hands and get fitted before the warm-up, which takes longer for two people than for one. Walk-ins arriving at 5:00 PM sharp are still absorbed into the class.
What to expect for first class
Hand-wrapping, a warm-up, technique taught from zero, pad rounds, and a conditioning finish — about an hour, nobody hitting back, intensity scaled to each of you. Bring light sports clothes; everything else is provided.
Key takeaways
- Yes, bring a friend: the daily 5:00 PM group class is the norm here — walk-ins, pairs, and groups all take the same path, $9 per person, gear provided.
- Partner work is the format, not an exception: pad rounds run you-strike / coach-or-partner-holds, and first classes stay on pads — nobody hits back, no sparring on day one.
- Pricing for two is per person: $9/$18 a day, $69/$138 a week, $129/$258 a month, $25/$50 an hour for side-by-side privates, $299/$598 for the 6-week camp (pair totals our arithmetic on published rates).
- First-class nerves are the most repeated worry in the training communities — and two of the eight reviews on our listing are pairs who trained their first class side by side.
- No booking exists for the group class, but a two-person heads-up helps the coach pair you and size gear; arrive about 20 minutes before 5:00 PM.
